Mega-gorgeous HSM star Zac Efron is sitting across from me! The 22-year-old and I are kickin’ it at the beach in Marina, Del Rey, Ca. where he has agreed to tell us all about his new romantic drama film “Charlie St. Cloud” in which he plays a small-town hero who withdraws from life when his little brother dies. We are learning what Zac likes about his leading lady Amanda Crew, how he dealt with his most embarrassing fan encounter moment on the streets of L.A., where he, Vanessa and pals would love to sail (now that he’s learned how for the film) and how he’s changed since we first met him in 2005!

Zac’s “Charlie” director has only praise for his hard-working young star and reminded us that, for the film “17 Again,” Zac practiced spinning a basketball and passing it to the tips of his fingers, until those fingers bled! This is one dedicated actor. He was just as determined to learn to sail like a pro for “Charlie”. Sitting down with Zac to get the latest, we went all retro and handed him a digital pic we took of him in 2005 before HSM ever came out. He was 16.

I took this of you in 2005 at a ‘meet and greet’ for young stars of tomorrow. You had finished HSM but it hadn’t even been on TV yet. You were sitting there alone. I decided to come over and talk to this cute young guy and you told me all about ‘High School Musical’.
Zac: Oh Wow! [he laughs] That’s so funny! That’s very cool! [I hand him the picture and he keeps looking at it].

Who were you then? Who are you now? And what do you miss about the teen in that picture?
Zac: Oh man! [looking at the picture] I think right there it was just the naiveté. There was always a ‘best case scenario’ that was next and you were pointed in the right direction and you would either get that project or you wouldn’t. It was very simple at that time.

And now?
Zac: Now, I’m being privy to so much more information and being behind the scenes of a lot of stuff, it’s become more of a full-time job for me. I think here [at age 16], not to say it was less work but, look at me! I don’t have a care in the world here [we laugh]. Now I’m running my own ship more. Then I was waiting for that big surprise and I was still in high school. That’s one thing that’s been great is I’m not having to wake up early for class all the time.

Teen heartthrob Zac Efron announced on Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight with Jay Leno” that he plans to take snowboarding lessons from none other than Shaun White. Efron presented White with his award for Best Male U.S. Olympic Athlete at the 2010 ESPY Awards last week, and has expressed an admiration for the Olympic gold medalist.

“I actually got Shaun’s number and I’m going to try to go snowboarding with him,” Efron told Leno. “He’s great. He’s someone from my generation that I really look up to. When he pulled those stunts at the Olympics, that was insane.”

Efron stars in the upcoming film “Charlie St. Cloud.” No word yet on when or where the rendezvous would take place.

The American actor, singer and dancer, Zac Efron has revealed that he angered the movie bosses last year when he bungee jumped off a bridge in Vancouver, Canada. The famous former “High School Musical” movie star turned daredevil for the day during a break from filming a new movie “Charlie St. Cloud.”

“You’re actually not allowed to do it. I got in really big trouble. In your contract you’re not supposed to do it. It was a lapse of judgement. Believe me, I could have been reamed. I probably shouldn’t have gone. We decided at two in the morning the night before,” he had stated.

He admits that he had signed up for the activity on a whim and later found himself in trouble with the superiors.

Rumours are circulating that Zac Efron may bag the role of Kurt Cobain. The original rumours claimed that “Twilight” actor Robert Pattinson, 24, was lined up for the role of Kurt in the biopic about the Nirvana front-man’s life, although these rumours were soon halted by widow Courtney Love and then by Rob himself.

Well now stories are circulating that Zac, 22, may bag the role. We all know that he can sing (even if it was in “High School Musical” and not a grunge band) and he may be a little easier to make look like Kurt, where as with Pattinson it may be a bit harder.

Vanessa Hudgens isn’t the jealous type… at least not when it comes to her man Zac Efron puckering up to other women in movies. At the premiere of his new movie “Charlie St. Cloud” last night, V swore she wasn’t bothered by his spit swapping scenes.

“I took myself out of it and just watched it like anyone else would,” Vanessa told E! News nonchalantly.

She’s more concerned with where her famous boyfriend will be sitting when she makes her debut as Mimi in “Rent” at the Hollywood Bowl…

“Wherever they put him! I don’t wanna know where they put him. I’ll be distracted!”

As for Zac, he tells E! News that having his girlfriend at the premiere helps him relax. “She’s just calming my nerves and saying she’s so proud,” he confessed. “It really means a lot to me!”

And no matter where he sits for Vanessa’s musical theater debut, there’s no doubt he’ll be in the house. “I wouldn’t miss that for the world!” he told us.

If Zac Efron had a cold on Monday, as opposed to allergies, he probably passed it along to some fans at Bloomington’s Mall of America. The way that mostly female crowd, estimated at 7,000, screamed, they’d gladly share germs from Efron, who was here to promote his movie “Charlie St. Cloud.” Only 100 to 200 fans actually got to meet Efron at the event sponsored by KDWB-FM. The chosen few got autographs plus a handshake or a hug, depending on their druthers.

Fans of the “High School Musical” heartthrob, who kept wiping his nose and eyes with his hand, were on all levels, down main corridors (roped off in places where they could not possibly have gotten a glimpse of Efron) and in new areas where there is usually no need to pool crowds.

Efron seemed awed by the scene. And he should have been. MOA spokeswoman Erica Dao checked the records and reported that Efron’s “High School Musical” co-star and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens attracted an estimated 4,000 while former Gov. Sarah Palin’s crowd was estimated at 3,000.

Efron was late to the signing. According to a KDWB staffer, who may have been joking, Efron stopped at a convenience store to eat a hot dog.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are finally opening up about the disappointment of their new flick’s release dates. Since the announcement of the new release date for “Beastly,” fans weren’t the only ones who were let down.

Zac, 22, shared with MTV, “It was disappointing. It was hard. I actually had to break the news to her. I was like, ‘I think we are moving on to your date.’ She took it really well, but it’s hard when that kind of stuff happens. We don’t, as actors, have any control over it, so we’ll see. I mean, hopefully it will work out for the best. ‘Beastly’ is a great movie, and when it does come out, people are absolutely going to love it.”

Vanessa, 21, added, “I just didn’t feel right about us having movies coming out on the same day. It’s just not right. We’re actually going to be doing some re-shoots and changing it up a bit, so hopefully we’ll make it that much better.”

“Charlie St. Cloud” hits theaters next Friday, July 30th.

Zac Efron has responded to Miley Cyrus’s recent admission that she would have posters of him on her walls if they were not friends. The “Hannah Montana” star previously told Access Hollywood that Efron held a “special place” in her heart.

“I am obsessed with Zac Efron. If it wouldn’t be creepy because he’s a friend, I would have posters on my wall,” she joked.

During a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Efron was played a video clip of Cyrus’s interview and asked for his response.

“That’s so funny! I don’t even know what to say to that,” he said. “She’s really sweet. I’ve known Miley for a really long time. I’ve known her since she was a little girl. It’s amazing what she’s done. She’s blossomed into this beautiful lady now and taken the world by storm. I’m so proud of her.”

Zac Efron says his relationship with girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens has helped him over the years. The actor – who hooked up with Hudgens while the pair filmed Disney’s “High School Musical” movies – says the couple work hard to avoid the temptations of Hollywood.

“It helped me through quite a bit,” he said. “There are myriad distractions to fall into in this business. To have someone to share with and to relate to is a very valuable gift.”

Efron recently denied claims he and Hudgens are getting married.

“Zac Efron Is Ready to Propose to Vanessa Hudgens!!” exclaims publicity-desperate blogger Zack Taylor, whose track is sketchy at best.

Taylor quotes an unnamed source, who tells him “exclusively” that “The proposal has been something [Zac] has been thinking about for a while. He already has the ring picked out and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the two engaged this summer.”

And the only thing that would surprise Gossip Cop is if Taylor actually got a big scoop right.

A rep for Efron, who’s tired of Taylor and other sites’ inaccuracies, tells Gossip Cop, “They are not moving in, getting married or breaking up.”

’Nuff said.

In “Charlie St. Cloud,” Zac Efron proves he’s all grown up. Audiences have gotten used to seeing Zac Efron in basketball duds; after all, the triple threat suited up for the “High School Musical” trilogy, as well as “17 Again.” But this month the 22-year-old leaves his comfortable warm-ups behind to star in “Charlie St. Cloud,” in which he plays a young man with a promising future that’s compromised after a car accident takes the life of his younger brother, Sam. Zac, who explored his dramatic side with last year’s “Me & Orson Welles,” feels that his newest role is a departure for him.

“It’s much more emotional and a little bit older,” he says proudly. “It was what drew me to this particular film.” The part also called for Zac to become an experienced sailor, which required more than a few lessons. “I’d been before, but I wasn’t the one doing the sailing. I was playing Game Boy below deck,” he confesses. “Now I’ve got such an appreciation for the sport.”

The transition from teen heartthrob to bona fide movie star isn’t always a smooth one, but Zac seems fully prepared for the challenge. His next film (for which he’ll also pick up a producing credit) delves even further into adult subject matter: Zac plays a money-laundering drug runner.

Beyond that, he’s surprisingly mum on the details of his upcoming projects. “I don’t want to jinx it, you know?” he says. “My checklist is infinite. There’s nothing I wouldn’t try.”
