Zac Efron says his relationship with girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens has helped him over the years. The actor – who hooked up with Hudgens while the pair filmed Disney’s “High School Musical” movies – says the couple work hard to avoid the temptations of Hollywood.

“It helped me through quite a bit,” he said. “There are myriad distractions to fall into in this business. To have someone to share with and to relate to is a very valuable gift.”

Efron recently denied claims he and Hudgens are getting married.

“Zac Efron Is Ready to Propose to Vanessa Hudgens!!” exclaims publicity-desperate blogger Zack Taylor, whose track is sketchy at best.

Taylor quotes an unnamed source, who tells him “exclusively” that “The proposal has been something [Zac] has been thinking about for a while. He already has the ring picked out and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the two engaged this summer.”

And the only thing that would surprise Gossip Cop is if Taylor actually got a big scoop right.

A rep for Efron, who’s tired of Taylor and other sites’ inaccuracies, tells Gossip Cop, “They are not moving in, getting married or breaking up.”

’Nuff said.

In “Charlie St. Cloud,” Zac Efron proves he’s all grown up. Audiences have gotten used to seeing Zac Efron in basketball duds; after all, the triple threat suited up for the “High School Musical” trilogy, as well as “17 Again.” But this month the 22-year-old leaves his comfortable warm-ups behind to star in “Charlie St. Cloud,” in which he plays a young man with a promising future that’s compromised after a car accident takes the life of his younger brother, Sam. Zac, who explored his dramatic side with last year’s “Me & Orson Welles,” feels that his newest role is a departure for him.

“It’s much more emotional and a little bit older,” he says proudly. “It was what drew me to this particular film.” The part also called for Zac to become an experienced sailor, which required more than a few lessons. “I’d been before, but I wasn’t the one doing the sailing. I was playing Game Boy below deck,” he confesses. “Now I’ve got such an appreciation for the sport.”

The transition from teen heartthrob to bona fide movie star isn’t always a smooth one, but Zac seems fully prepared for the challenge. His next film (for which he’ll also pick up a producing credit) delves even further into adult subject matter: Zac plays a money-laundering drug runner.

Beyond that, he’s surprisingly mum on the details of his upcoming projects. “I don’t want to jinx it, you know?” he says. “My checklist is infinite. There’s nothing I wouldn’t try.”

Zac Efron has been in Hawaii for the last few days surfing, cliff jumping and yes, getting leied. The 22-year-actor was honored last night at the Maui Film Festival with the Shining Star Award. Not only did I conduct the night’s official Q&A with Zac, but I also got the chance to chat with him backstage before the big shebang. Read on to get the scoop…

“I’ve never had a better day surfing,” said Efron, who brought his younger brother Dylan, 18, on the trip. “If you’re going to go, you need to go here. The conditions are unbelievable. In California, the waves kind of toss you around. There always seems to be an offshore breeze. Here in Maui, I was out there and the water was so glassy and clear,” continued Efron, who took surfing lessons with celebrity surf instructor Kiva Rivers. “It was like a bathtub. The waves just stay wide open for long rides in.”

Rest and relaxation aside, Efron said he looks for career inspiration from people like Leonardo DiCaprio. However, he insists he has no master plans for how he wants it to all unfold.

“In my career, I’ve never been the man with the plan,” he said. “I’ve never been one to say, I want to be here in 10 years. People always ask, ‘Where do you want to be in 10 years? What do you see in the future?’ I don’t know. I always like to throw caution to the wind and follow my heart.”

Efron will next be seen in the drama “Charlie St. Cloud” with Ray Liotta and Kim Basinger. “I’m loving the ride right now,” he beamed. “I’m loving it.”

On stage, he cracked, “I’ve been here five minutes [and] I got leied.”

Before the awards ceremony, which took place outside at the Celestial Cinema on the Wailea Golf Course, Efron hit the opening night party at Capische? restaurant along with Malin Akerman, Josh Radnor and Dan Byrd. Later on, Efron mingled and even did some dancing at Tommy Bahama before calling it a night.

Missing Nikki Blonsky from your life after the 2007 remake of “Hairspray”? Have no fear, she’s back again: not in a John Waters musical this time, but on “Huge,” a new TV series about plus-size teens at a weight loss camp.

“Huge” stars Blonsky, 21, as a girl sent to the camp by parents who want her to drop some pounds, which is not in her plans at all. Blonsky stars alongside Hayley Hasselhoff – yes, The Hoff’s daughter – who is totally gung-ho about losing weight because she’s convinced her life will be awesome if she’s skinny and hot. Most of the cast memebrs are plus-size actors and actresses. “I don’t think there’s ever been a full cast of plus size people before,” says Blonsky.

You better believe I’ll be parked in front of the boob tube when “Huge” debuts on Monday, June 28th on ABC Family at 9 p.m. EST. After the jump, Nikki Blonsky talks about being a plus-size actress, her dream to sing on “Glee,” and her pal, Zac Efron.

So I want to know, do you still keep in touch with your “Hairspray” co-stars?
Absolutely. I’m so excited right now for John Travolta. His wife, Kelly, is expecting and I couldn’t be more happy for them. They so deserve another beautiful child and I love them so much and I wish them the best. I keep in touch with mostly all of my “Hairspray” co-stars. I just spoke to Zac [Efron] recently. Now that I’m out in California, I have access to them a lot more.

It’s swimsuit season in Hollywood, and that means the stars have been working hard on their beach bodies. On People magazine’s latest cover is heartthrob Zac Efron – with his shirt off, of course – as he tops the list of 50 “most amazing bodies”.

“He was chosen because he’s not that hard to look at as you can imagine. But also because he’s gone through an amazing transformation,” says People staff editor Michelle Tan.

Also on the list: Jennifer Love Hewitt, rapper Common, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kellan Lutz, Ryan Philippe and Gabrielle Union. Tan says the issue also provides tips and advice for readers to score their own six-pack, or bikini bod just like their favorite star.

Zac Efron, who is in Hawaii this week ahead of the 2010 Maui Film Festival (where he will be honored with the Shining Star Award on Wednesday night), spent part of his weekend doing a bit of swimming with his younger brother Dylan and managed to show off a little bit of his physical fitness.

Now, that’s a Maui wowie! A shirtless Zac Efron showed off his rock hard bod while taking an early morning swim with his brother Dylan in Maui on Sunday … Next up for Zac: he stars in the big screen drama Charlie St. Cloud which hits theaters July 20, 2010.

OH my … yes … Zac does look really good in these photos. Considering he wasn’t lookin’ all that great in the last batch of photos we saw of him last week, these photos are a welcome sight. After the jump, find out what the Maui Film Festival has in store for Zac this week — oh, and check out a couple more photos of Zac on the beach …

Teen heartthrob Zac Efron will be honored by the Maui Film Festival in Hawaii later this month with its Shining Star Award. The star of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” and “17 Again” will accept the award June 16, the festival’s opening night. Festival director Barry Rivers says the 22-year-old actor is an “exemplary shining star.” Rivers says this year’s mantra is “Trust the Future,” and Efron is an actor withan extraordinary career behind him and an even more brilliant one ahead of him.

Woof! Yeah, I am ALL for Zac spending as much time as he likes at the beach in Maui … yes sir … and if he wants to just walk around all day, all night wearing as little clothing as possible, I think I’d be okay with it. Yes … uh huh. What do y’all think?

Now in its 11th year, the festival starts its five-day run Wednesday with a tribute to young actor Zac Efron and the Hawaii premiere of “Bran Nue Dae,” an Australian film that blends Broadway-style musical comedy, Aboriginal culture and Roman Catholic ritual. The festival lineup features 40 films that showcase “compassionate filmmakers,” according to Barry Rivers.

“I enjoy presenting cinema that enlightens people and exposes them to infinite possibilities rather than directs them to yet another dark cesspool of culture,” he said. “I use different terms to describe it. Smart with heart. Stuff, not fluff. Movies that matter.”

What that means is films without car chases, huge special effects and women in peril, he said.

Miley Cyrus has joked that Zac Efron will always have a “special place” in her heart.

The 17-year-old made the comment after she was asked by Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush whether young female stars had a harder time growing up in the public eye than male stars such as Efron.

“Girls are immediately going to say, ‘Oh, she’s trying to sell sex’. Well, I love Zac Efron, but what’s he selling? He’s gorgeous, he’s hot, I don’t go see his movie because I’m like, ‘He’s such a fantastic actor’. He’s a great actor, but he’s hot,” she said.

The Hannah Montana star – who showcases a more mature look in her new music video for ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ – went on to say that it “just isn’t as obvious when guys do it”.

“I was on tour with the Jonas Brothers my first year and boybands get away with a lot,” she continued. “For girls, it’s always going to be harder. That’s not an excuse, it just means we have to work harder.”

When asked whether boyfriend Liam Hemsworth knew about her crush on Efron, she replied: “Liam’s hot too, but Zac Efron has a special place in my heart. I am obsessed with Zac Efron. If it wouldn’t be creepy because he’s a friend, I would have posters on my wall.”
